Comeback Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his initial title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
