Area Police
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official stated the incident left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
